Fed: Labor denies laundering allegation

CANBERRA, April 7 AAP - Allegations of a money laundering scam in the federal opposition
have left Labor Party chiefs scratching their heads.

Health Minister Michael Wooldridge was under fire in question time yesterday over fundraising
dinners at which he allegedly discussed Medicare rebates with radiologists.

Dr Wooldridge hit back, saying at least the Liberal Party did not have relationships
with private corporations where money was laundered through the federal secretariat for
the personal benefit of some frontbenchers.

But both Opposition Leader Kim Beazley and outgoing ALP national secretary Gary Gray
said they did not know what Dr Wooldridge was talking about.

"I cannot for the life of me work out what Dr Wooldridge is talking about," Mr Beazley
told journalists.

"All I know is Dr Wooldridge is in a deal of trouble for the administration of his
portfolio, which in relation to the scan scam would have taken out any minister in a government
with normal standards."
