NT: CLP tipped to win again
Australia's longest serving government is tipped to extend to a 30-year rein when the
Northern Territory goes to the polls today.
After 26 years in power, the Country Liberal Party is braced for a swing to Labor and
a record field of independents.
But the government's 10-seat margin in a 25-seat Legislative Assembly is expected to
withstand it.
Chief Minister DENIS BURKE says Labor's plans to scrap mandatory sentencing is a key
election issue.
Mandatory sentencing is also a theme of a Federal Court trial which begins on Monday
in which the North Australian Aboriginal Legal Aid Service challenges the validity of
the appointment of Chief Magistrate HUGH BRADLEY.
