NSW: Thousands rally in opposition to war
Thousands of people yesterday turned out across New South Wales for protests againsta possible war with Iraq.
The Greens unfurled a no-war banner on Sydney's MLC building as protesters in Newcastle,Lismore, Bellingen, and Armidale showed their opposition to Australia's involvement inpossible military action against Iraq.
Newcastle police estimate about 15,000 protesters marched through the city while atBellingen on the mid-north coast, some 3,000 people demonstrated.
About 5,000 people rallied in the northern city of Lismore, while 3,000 turned out at Byron Bay.
Meanwhile in Tasmania, up to 15,000 people attended a rally in Hobart organised bythe Peace Coalition.
